4 Tips to Make Work and Home Life Easier

Have you ever gotten to the point where your entire home and office seems to be in a perpetual mess? Do you feel that it is just too overwelming to tackle? Pretty soon you start losing important paperwork, not returning emails or phone calls in a timely manner and you just get stressed out!

I’ve been there. I used to feel that way too. With my three little tornadoes (twins age 2 1/2 and 6 year old) that live in my house, I was beginning to think that the mess was hopeless.

I feel like I’ve finally gotten an upper hand on the mess and disorganization. I won’t claim to be perfect yet but I am pretty happy with what’s been happening. I feel that it is a great topic to talk about and share some things that have helped me. If you have tips you’d like to share, send them to us at sheri@birthingbusiness.com or post them as comments.

Tip 1 – change what you are saying outloud and to yourself. Are you constantly saying, “I’m so disorganized” or “This house is always a disaster”? Perhaps you tell yourself that you just aren’t good with paperwork. One of my students, Vivian Giles, a midwife and hypnobirthing educator told me that she now tells herself that she is very good at paperwork. Just that statement has helped her tremendously. She is no longer losing papers and behind in paperwork. Change what you say outloud and to yourself. You’ll be amazed at what transpires.

Tip 2 – make organizing your office and home something fun. I’ve put on music and danced around while getting the house reorganized and I have to say that I did get it done a lot faster. Or, if you are social, invite a friend over to help you then help her at her house next week.

Tip 3 – Get the kids involved. I promised the kids a trip to the park but first we set a timer and everyone including my husband and I had to clean up as much as we could in 30 minutes. My 6 year old is pretty competitive so this worked out fairly well. My toddlers weren’t too helpful but at least they like to mimic my 6 year old so it minimized new messes.

Tip 4 – Declutter! I’ve been consistently cleaning out drawers, closets and cabinets for the last several months. Reducing the clutter sure makes it easier to keep things clean. If it is overwhelming, just start with one bathroom drawer as your challenge for the day.
